Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-invasive treatment that uses detailed micro-needles to deposit pigment into the scalp. The result creates the appearance of tiny hair follicles that help thicken and restore the look of fuller hair.

We offer SMP for men, SMP for women, and SMP repair to help you restore your confidence. You can view our before and after pictures and videos to see how we’ve helped men and women just like you restore their look.

Sometimes referred to as a hair tattoo, scalp micropigmentation is an art form that creates the illusion of real hair follicles. Well-trained practitioners will know how to use different types of needles to create your new look.

Our artists use single micro and three-point needles to give you the best results. We pay attention to the hairline and work to blend, match, and build density. We can cover scars as well, producing natural, undetectable results. It looks real, is non-invasive, and is cost-effective for anyone battling hair loss issues.

What is the difference in needles used for SMP?

Most people do not realize the difference between needles used in the industry by separate providers. To the informed, one could simply see from the results just what type of needle and skill a particular artist uses.

Properly sized needles will create the best work for all-around more appealing and natural results. The right needle size should measure the same size as a real hair follicle. Each individual and ethnicity has different types of hair, some thicker than others. With that said, the differences in thicknesses are so minuscule, a larger needle would never be necessary to treat a scalp. Look for dots larger than any natural hair follicle. You will need to see a close-up to identify this flaw.

There is NOTHING special about different needles being used in the industry. The simple “trick” here is utilizing a needle that can make an impression the same size as real hair. Keep in mind, these needles have been around for centuries. There are dozens of different types of needles that can be purchased which will create the perfect scalp micropigmentation result. A patented needle or just a ‘special’ needle is simply used for marketing. The results lie solely in the artist. Just the same as any type of art or other procedure. Why is there a surgeon in Beverly Hills well known and booked out for months, while other surgeons that have access to the same advanced technology as the Beverly Hills surgeon, are not known, not busy, and not recommended by others? After identifying the proper equipment, it is all in the hands of the artist.

How is SMP different from a conventional tattoo?

Although similar in the sense that both processes involve depositing ink underneath the skin, the two treatments are completely different.

People have been getting tattoos for centuries as a form of expressing themselves through words, pictures, or images. SMP on the other hand, is an alteration of appearance. It is purely a cosmetic treatment, a treatment designed to go unnoticed as the result seems so natural when done correctly.

Even though it is often called a hair tattoo, the application is different. Conventional marking requires a deeper approach while dragging or drawing a needle under the skin. Shading and/or the use of colors are also necessary for a conventional tattooist, which has no place in the SMP industry. Machines used are indeed interchangeable, although not recommended. Since scalp micropigmentation is a more delicate application, the need for as much power as a standard tattoo is not necessary. Other than the power of the motor in a machine, there is no functional difference, making both styles of machine interchangeable. In other words, the only real difference in machines is the look or shell of the machine. SMP or permanent makeup machines are styled to have more of a medical appearance.

Scalp micropigmentation requires a very delicate and precise technique. Placing each dot to the correct depth for this hair tattoo is extremely crucial, as each dot has to have ink deposited in the perfect amount under the skin. When applying scalp micropigmentation, an artist cannot cause a lot of trauma because the skin on the scalp is more sensitive compared to the rest of the body. You have to be very gentle and delicate. It would be difficult for a tattoo artist to change techniques from aggressive to less aggressive as it’s a completely different approach entirely.

Most states require an SMP artist and a tattoo artist to get the same licensing. This is because both methods involve breaking the skin with a needle and potentially drawing blood (although blood will not be drawn in every case, it is especially less likely with SMP). While both applications fall under the same guidelines for regulation, they are completely different services.

Scalp micropigmentation generally lasts four years or longer. The pigment used is permanent, making it resistant to fading and color changes. Scalp micropigmentation can help if you have alopecia areata or if you’ve undergone chemotherapy.

If you have had hormonal conditions like PCOS that have caused your hair loss, scalp micropigmentation may be the permanent solution you’ve been looking for. It is also ideal for male pattern baldness and scalp deformities.

Generally, it will take usually two to four sessions for scalp micropigmentation. It will last for years to come though, all without needing maintenance. Most clients don’t have to worry about anything after that and simply enjoy the results.

If you live in South Florida and want to explore the non-invasive options for hiding your hair loss, contact us for a consultation today!

In general, scalp micropigmentation treatment sessions will last from two to five hours. This is a broad range as it can vary. It will depend on your skin type and the size of the area you want to work on to determine how complex or simple it may be to get the procedure finished.

If you’re dealing with hair loss or baldness, the treatments you’re considering should give you a natural appearance. You don’t want to stand out for all the wrong reasons. When SMP is finished, it creates a natural look. However, you should be careful who you choose to perform this procedure.

At International Hairlines, we have experienced SMP professionals who take the time to ensure your results are realistic. By ensuring the process is done right, you will love the way you look.

Scalp micropigmentation is a cost-effective option for those dealing with hair loss. The cost will depend on the thinning areas of your hair or how much scalp we must cover. It will also depend on if you have any scars to cover, the style you’ve selected, and your current stage of hair loss. An average cost is $400 to $1600 per session.

It is impossible to do SMP in just one session, which means you will need to plan on two to four sessions. These touch-up sessions can cost anywhere from $400 to $800. While this may seem steep, your results will last you for years without the need for any additional maintenance. Compared to hair transplants, surgeries, and other procedures, SMP is one of the most affordable options you have for creating a natural look.

Financing options are available, and we’re happy to discuss them with you when you come in for your free consultation. Schedule one today to regain your hair and your confidence!

There are many reasons why women may experience hair loss stemming from genetic predispositions, alopecia, stress and even menopause. Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a permanent solution for women with thinning areas on the crown and top of their heads. SMP creates the illusion of a full head of hair by creating an under-layer.  For women with alopecia, SMP eliminates having to handle consistent spot balding. SMP is also used in camouflaging scars with the blending of surgical scars and temples of the face. With repeated insertions of the needle into the dermal layer of the skin is known to stimulate, or bring back, the hair follicles. Every treatment is tailored specifically to each person’s needs. Although SMP was originally designed for men, women are now taking advantage of its benefits.

alopecia & scars

Alopecia is an autoimmune disorder, alopecia triggers the body to attack healthy hair follicles which often leads to hair loss. Scalp Micropigmentation is the only guaranteed and reliable solution for all types of alopecia—be it universlies (total body hair loss), areata (round patches/bald spots) or totalis alopecia (complete baldness).

SMP is also a very common procedure when concealing hair transplant scars. Ranging from FUT or FUE hair transplant scars to alopecia or accident scarring, we provide an impeccable scars-camouflaging service, making them nearly impossible to detect.
